Cottage Holidays Central France

 Dining Out:

As with all of France, eating out and French food in general is a delight to the senses.

The atmosphere of eating in a traditional French restaurant, and in particular a local village restaurant is simply wonderful. Sometimes eating at lunchtime can find the menu to be cheaper. The menus  are varied and interesting.

So far, in the places we have eaten we have received the most courteous and friendly of welcomes and the food in all cases has been  superbly tasty and extremely good value for money. Most menus are between 10 and 15 euros - often for four courses, sometimes including wine or coffee.

You can of course pay more should you wish to splash out. Why not go to a village restaurant, be brave, just go in, smile and say a general hello to everyone (Messieurs-dames) and ask for a table (Une table pour une, deux/trois/quatre, s'il vous plait).

Do not expect English translation on the menu, although some places may have them, especially in a busy town.

Here are some recommendations of local restaurants:

La Chatre

La Massilia - Restaurant and Pizzeria

Auberge à l'Escargot

The restaurant suggests various menus, from of 28 to 37€.There is a daily menu and children's menu are also available. Their cook suggests you savour his specialities, snails cooked differently in every season, almond biscuits, white chocolate mousse strewed with raspberries. During beautiful days, take advantage of the summer terrace. The inn is historic and welcomed the relatives of Georges Sand. This bar / restaurant is lovely - it is opposite the entrance to the market square. When you go through the door you see the old and and very attractive bar. There is a separate dining area that is slightly more modern and spacious if you prefer, but you can eat in the bar.

It is very popular on market day, which is Wednesday. There is a new host who offers midweek meals for 12€ and weekend meals at 16€. He is Belgian I believe and speaks a little English.
